News from Heron Drums
It has been twelve and a half years since I started Heron Drums, and in that time, it has been an incredible honour to meet and work with thousands of you across the country, sharing the art and magic of the shamanic drum.
Today, I am announcing that Heron Drums will be taking a pause and winding down for a time. This decision comes as I prepare for a significant life change—I will be moving to Ireland. While this is an exciting new chapter, moving house is always a big task, and moving country even more so. It will take a huge amount of time and energy to settle in and create the space for what comes next.
As much as I would love for Heron Drums to continue uninterrupted through this transition, the reality for many crafters and small businesses right now is that this would not be sustainable. After much reflection, I have come to the decision that pausing Heron Drums is the only way forward.
What’s Next?
Over the next few months, Heron Drums will continue crafting our shamanic drums and sacred crafts, supplying drum-making materials, and compiling more resources for those wanting to deepen their connection to the shamanic drum. The plan is to gradually wind down, bit by bit, with a view to closing by the summer solstice.
Looking back, I feel incredibly proud of Heron Drums’ part in shaping the landscape of shamanic drumming and drum-making in the UK. We have introduced thousands of people to the craft, supporting them in their journeys with the shamanic drum. Many who have learned from me or been inspired by my work have carried that forward, creating their own communities and drumming circles, contributing to the drum’s growing presence across the country. It has been an honour to witness the impact of this craft on so many lives.
A Celebration in May
As we move through this transition, I want to take time to honour the journey we’ve shared and the meaningful connections formed over the years. During our Drum Birthing workshops, I have always set the intention that we may meet again and have the chance to drum together, and now is the time for that.
At the end of May, on the last bank holiday weekend, we will host a special gathering in Glastonbury—a celebration of the many drums that have been birthed with us and of everyone who is part of the Heron Drums community. This event will be a chance to come together, share stories, play drums, and honour this chapter of our collective journey. It will be a meaningful way to mark the end of this era and look ahead to the next. I will share more details soon about how you can join us for this gathering.
Looking Ahead
This is not the end of the story for Heron Drums, but it is the end of a chapter. I am deeply grateful for all of your love, support, and trust over the years. Heron Drums would not have been what it is without each and every one of you. Thank you for being part of this journey. I look forward to connecting with you over the coming months, celebrating with you in Glastonbury in May, and dreaming ahead to what the future holds.
Thank you.
